Montreal’s Cirque du Soleil will return to Calgary on Sept. 3 with ECHO, a story about “the symbiotic unions between humans and the animal kingdom.”
This will mark the first time ECHO, which was created in 2023, will be performed in Calgary. The show runs until Oct. 19 under the Big Top at Stampede Park.
The show involves the world-renowned company’s unusual array of costumes, sets and acrobatics, centring on best friends Future and Ewai the Dog encountering a mysterious cube and quickly learn “how their actions have the power to shape the world” Throughout the show characters interact with the cube, a massive central structure is extracted and rebuilt.
The production was performed in Vancouver last October.
This is Cirque du Soleil’s 20th Big Top show.
“We experience the echo through humanity and the way our actions have a resounding impact on the surrounding world,” reads Cirque’s press material for the show. “An echo is also expressed through choreography. Many of the show’s performances are inspired by notion of repetition, telling stories through continuous movements and exploring the dyamic between organic, free-moving animals and the structured uniformity of scientific thinking.”
This is the first Cirque performance in Calgary since Kooza in 2023.
