Drapery adds the finishing touches of drama, function and personality

As the days get longer, I think we are grateful for a little more vitamin D in our life. When it comes to our homes, natural light is key and I think the more you have, the better it is. When you have a lot of windows in your home, it’s always a good thing, however, window coverings need to be considered. Window coverings can encompass not only blinds but also drapery. I think both are essential when it comes to decor, as they can add such a beautiful layer to your space. Windows that are kept bare or just with blinds often look unfinished, and a drapery moment can help with adding softness and privacy.

The key to window coverings is to not think about them as simply utilitarian but as things that will bring beauty into your home. Adding those layers and textures into the space helps pull the whole design and decor of your home together and adds your personality.

Bedrooms

We always have window coverings in bedrooms and often do both blinds and drapery. The blinds can help with blocking out the light, and the drapery adds softness to the space. Think about keeping your fabric selection light and try a pattern. Go bold and graphic or something a bit softer, but this will add a lot of character to your space.

Living Rooms

I love creating wall-to-wall drapery moments in living spaces. A simple rod with a ripple-fold drapery treatment in a simple and natural linen looks stunning. The linen keeps the look from appearing too formal and adds a casualness to the space, which I love. Drapery doesn’t need to be fussy in a home. Remember that when installing a rod, if you are looking to elongate the wall, place it closer to the ceiling and if not, split the area from the top of the window to the ceiling.

For living rooms that have a lot of height, wall-to-wall and floor length drapery adds so much drama. Think of a simple, more neutral fabric choice or even a sheer fabric. This will help to keep the look subtle and not overwhelm the space with too much fabric.

Dining Rooms

Consistency is key to any home. If you have an open floor plan, you want to ensure you are continuing the drapery in the dining room, as well. This will help tie the spaces together but also make your dining room a little more pulled together. If you have a dining room that is separate from the rest of the space, then have fun with it. Be bold and do something a little more daring to create a gorgeous moody space.
