The playoff picture has been solidified after the round robin at the Saskatchewan men’s and women’s provincial curling championships in Kindersley.
Entering Friday’s action, Jolene Campbell and her Regina squad remained the only unbeaten team on the women’s side through six games of the Viterra Prairie Pinnacle. Campbell and company beat previously undefeated Penny Barker and her Moose Jaw rink 11-5 on Thursday night and followed that up with a victory over Team Nancy Martin on Friday afternoon to improve to 6-0.
Campbell then kept her perfect record in tact on Friday night with another victory, which clinched her the No. 1 seed heading into the playoffs, before the Regina rink lost their final round robin game on Saturday morning.
After Barker and Martin each picked up victories to secure playoff spots on Friday to improve to 5-2, it set up a battle for the No. 2 seed between the two teams on Saturday morning in the final draw. And in that game, it was Martin winning 11-4 which clinched her a spot in the 1-2 page playoff game while Barker heads to the 3-4 page playoff game.
The final playoff spot was still up for grabs entering the final draw with Team Ashley Thevenot in the driver’s seat to secure it. And on Saturday morning, Thevenot — who won the event last year playing third with Skylar Ackerman — beat Team Mandy Selzer 9-6 to secure a spot in Saturday night’s 3-4 page playoff game.
On the men’s side, after opening the SaskTel Tankard with five straight wins, Steve Laycock and his Swift Current squad suffered their first loss of the event against Dylan Derksen and his young Martensville squad on Thursday night. Laycock then bounced back with a 5-4 win over Team Kelly Knapp on Friday morning to improve to 6-1, which clinched him a playoff spot as the No. 1 seed.
Also clinching a playoff spot was Rylan Kleiter and his Saskatoon squad, who beat Knapp on Friday evening to improve to 5-2. Team Dustin Kalthoff, who beat Derksen on Friday night, also secured a playoff spot with five wins entering the final draw.

And in the final draw on Saturday afternoon, Kalthoff picked up a win while Kleiter lost, sending Kalthoff to the 1-2 page playoff game against Laycock while Kleiter heads to the 3-4 page playoff game.
The final playoff spot and a spot in the 3-4 game was also up for grabs in the final draw with Knapp facing Team Jason Jacobson, with the winner securing the fourth spot. And in that game, Knapp — the 2023 provincial champion — fended off Jacobson, winning 11-7.
The playoff round begins Saturday night with the 1-2 and 3-4 page playoff games, with the women getting underway at 7 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m. The semifinals will be played Sunday morning with the women’s game at 9 a.m. and the men’s game at 10 a.m.
The championship matches are then scheduled for Sunday afternoon with the women’s final at 3 p.m. and the men’s final at 7 p.m.
The men’s winner will represent Saskatchewan at the Montana’s Brier from Feb. 28 to Mar. 9 in Kelowna, B.C., where they will be joined by another Saskatchewan squad skipped by Mike McEwen, who has already earned one of three pre-qualified spots.
Meanwhile, the women’s winner will represent the province at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts from Feb. 14-23 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
